Review: Hakuoki (Apple iPad)

May 1, 2015

Apple iPad/dating game/Hakuoki/Idea Factory/iPad Review/Reviews/visual novel

Hakuoki is one of the better visual novels out there. An otome game (as in a game that is targeted towards women, in which a female character needs to form a romantic bond with male characters), Hakuoki comes to us from Idea Factory, and has the distinction of being one…

News/NISA/onechanbara/Onechanbara Z2: Chaos/trailer/Trailers/XSEED/XSEED Games

NISA has released an English trailer for its upcoming Onechanbara Z2 action game (the same game will be published by XSEED in the US). And it’s immediately obvious that the bikini-clad girls voice actors are playing this one up for everything that it’s worth. Onechanbara has, of course, been a…

Review: Infinity Runner (Sony PlayStation 4)

April 30, 2015

endless runner/Indie/PS4 Review/Reviews/Sony PlayStation 4

If you look at Infinity Runner’s trailers and read its concept, you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s something of a cross between an endless runner, Mirror’s Edge, and Mass Effect. In concept we’re promised a fast-paced sci-fi action game, with goons to beat up, even as you help…

Koei Tecmo’s Deception IV headed to PS4… and enhanced

Deception/Deception IV/Deception IV: Blood Ties/Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess/Koei Tecmo/News/trailer/Trailers

Of Koei Tecmo’s extensive library of titles, the Deception franchise is perhaps one of the least well known. And that’s a pity, because while the last game in the series (released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita) was flawed, it was a flawed gem that we enjoyed a great deal.…

2D platformer/Elliot Quest/Indie/Nintendo Wii U/Retro/Reviews/RPG/Wii U Review

There is a very fine line between homage and slavish devotion. Both might come from the same place; a deep love of a particular game (or film, book, or otherwise), but where a homage uses that love to creative effect, to forge its own identity and often build on the…

Arcade/DLC/DLC Review/pinball/Zen Pinball/Zen Pinball 2/Zen Studios

For years now, Zen Studios has been building its Zen Pinball 2 platform into something truly incredible. It’ll cost you a pretty penny to buy access to every one of the 54 tables that are now available, but for pinball fanatics it’s hard to imagine a game development company that…

Review: Grand Theft Auto V (PC)

Grand Theft Auto V/GTA/GTA V/open world game/PC Review/Reviews/Rockstar

I was driving around aimlessly in a stolen black Vapid Bullet, when I collided against a white Benefactor Panto (which had appeared out of nowhere). My car hit a pole and stalled. When I stepped out of my vehicle to inspect the damage, I found out to my horror that…

Review: The Golf Club Collector’s Edition (Xbox One)

HB Studios/Maximum Games/Microsoft Xbox One/Reviews/sports game/The Golf Club Collector's Edition/XB1/Xbox One review

Last year The Golf Club launched on a handful of platforms with some pretty ambitious goals that were mostly met. however, even as I played the game then, I felt like there was room for more; it needed more options, more themes and more performance optimisation. Now, about a year…

Review: Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China (Sony PlayStation 4)

Assassin's Creed Chronicles Trilogy/Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China/Climax Studios/platformer/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Reviews/Stealth/Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed is at its best when Ubisoft is willing to experiment with it. When developer teams are unburdened from the AAA-budgets, and left free to experiment with narrative and form, we invariably see the potential of this series hit its peak; we see games that make interesting use of…

Dungeon Keeper/Indie/PC/PC Review/Reviews/Strategy/War for the Overworld

War for the Overworld is another in a growing list of Kickstarter campaigns that were successfully crowdfunded. In this case, the game pays homage to the classic Dungeon Keeper series from EA. What started out as a fan-made sequel after EA cancelled the development of Dungeon Keeper 3: War for…
