Let’s talk about the PlayStation 4’s potential to be the finest console ever

May 5, 2015

The PlayStation 4 turns 18 months old this month. It’s been a whirlwind 18 months, but I know I couldn’t go without the console now. It has done everything that I expected a games console to do with plug-and-play ease of use, and then has an expanding range of media…

Cam/Gadget/Gadget Review/Hardware/Hardware Review/IP Camera/Petcube/Petcube - Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera

Ever feel like there was a lack of cat videos and images on the Internet? Petcube could very well be the solution to that problem for you. Now, I say this with a grin on my face, since we all know that the powerhouse that is YouTube was built on…

Review: Monster Combine TD (Nintendo 3DS)

3DS/3DS Review/Collavier Corporation/Monster Combine TD/Nintendo/Reviews/Tower Defense

Seeing release after the unyielding barrage of downloadable tower defence games has declined somewhat, Collavier’s Monster Combine TD does a decent job of standing out from its hundreds of peers. Though it borrows the general format of Plants vs. Zombies and hardly endeavours to perfect the genre, Monster Combine relies…

It’s not often that free-to-play mobile games are truly exciting, but over in Japan (where the market is far more receptive to them, it must be said), there are a range of mobile games that have been worth getting excited for. SEGA’s Chain Chronicle and DeNA’s Final Fantasy: Record Keeper…

Early Access/Legends of Eisenwald/PC/Preview/Strategy/tactics game

I’m a huge fan of strategy games that can keep me occupied for hours and days on end. Legends of Eisenwald was something of a curiosity as it finds itself different to both turned-based strategy titles such as Heroes of Might and Magic, or the various tactics games and 4X…

Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the weekend (or using your weekend to do something offline, in which case I tip my hat to you), then chances are that you’ve heard about Yooka-Laylee. The newest darling of the Kickstarter phenomenon, Yooka-Layleee is a game that is being developed…

PC/PC Review/Puzzle Game/Reviews/Rooms: The Unsolvable Puzzle

There’s not a massive line-up of games to look forward to in May, but it’s the best month of games for the year to date. We start off with Shin Megami Tensei and Wolfenstein, before moving on to Project CARS, the third Witcher game finally gets a release, and a…

Books/Game Art

As I suspect most readers of Digitally Downloaded are aware, for the past year-and-a-bit I have been working on a book about games. Called Game Art, it’s a book of interviews with various game directors, producers and artists, presented as essay-style discussion pieces, and accompanied by visual art works from…

amiibo/Amiibo Touch & Play/Demo/Nintendo/Nintendo Wii U/Reviews/Wii U Review

Screw it. I wasn’t going to review this ‘game,’ because it’s free and it doesn’t even have microtransactions. But then I started playing with it, and felt compelled to write something about it, because I cannot fathom why Nintendo would expend the resources and energy to create this thing. It…
