Badland/Frogmind/iOS/iPad/iPhone/News/trailer/update

Many deem Frogmind’s Badland as one of the classic must-have games for Apple’s mobile operating system. Even Apple agrees, with the game almost always being featured in the App Store for one reason or another. It’s also touted as one of the most updated games of all time, going from…

Review: BRAWL (PC)

August 25, 2015

Arcade/Bloober Team/Bomberman clone/BRAWL/Multiplayer/PC/PC Review/Reviews

BRAWL is a title that generally gets things right. A couple of bugs and sketchy framerate now and again are easy enough to live with because the game itself is a lot of fun, especially with friends. The bigger issue is is that this is a game that benefits greatly…

IA/VT Colorful/Import/Import Review/Japan/PlayStation Vita/Reviews/rhythm game/Tour Japan/Vita Review/vocaloid

Like I was going to pass up an opportunity to grab a new vocaloid game while I was in Japan. Especially since it’s a game that we’re being told can never be localised into English. IA/VT Colorful might feature a vocaloid whose popularity by comparison to Hatsune Miku is like…

August 25, 2015

Atlus/JRPG/Lost Dimension/NISA/PlayStation Vita/Reviews/tactics game/Vita Review

Initially, I wasn’t too fond of what Lost Dimension was offering. It seemed like it was a simplistic turn based combat tactics game, with a relationship system that seemed to mirror the absence of complexity that the combat system was offering. How wrong was I. Related reading: For a second…

card game/CCG/digital CCG/Konami/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Reviews/Yu-Gi-Oh/Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

On the one hand I’m always up for a new Yu-Gi-Oh! game. On a fundamental level it’s a very complex, but very high quality, collectible card game (CCG), and short of making a video game version of Weiss Schwarz (a CCG game that features both Risette from Persona 4 and…

Japan/Moomin/Moomin Cafe/theme park/Tour Japan/tourism/travel

Spend enough time in Japan and you’ll realise quickly that the Japanese do liked their characters. Sanrio – the makers of Hello Kitty – has built an entire business model around developing cute animal characters. The entire reason that Hatsune Miku is a success is that Crypton had the foresight…

Review: Pure Hold’em (Sony PlayStation 4)

August 24, 2015

card game/Indie/Poker/PS4 Review/Pure Hold'em/Reviews/Ripstone/Sony PlayStation 4/VooFoo Studios

I’m actually quite good at poker. At least, I am at first. Every time I play poker the following little narrative happens: I sit down at a table with friends (or whoever I’m playing with), and we all toss in $20 and grab some chips. At first, I dominate the…
