Digitally Uploaded/digitallydownloaded.net/JRPG/podbean/podcast

It’s all about JRPGs this week! What got us into JRPGs, what we love about the genre, and all that good stuff. From the classics, right through to the modern examples of the genre. We also discuss what might be driving the renaissance for JRPGs today – because between the…

5PB/action/bullet hell/Bullet Soul/Bullet Soul Infinite Burst/Mages/PC/PC Review/Reviews/SHMUP/Steam

Review by Clark A. Just four months after the release of Bullet Soul on Steam comes Bullet Soul Infinite Burst. While there was originally a gap of several years where the Xbox 360 version was concerned, electing to release an enhanced game in a subgenre as niche as the bullet…

Review: Masquerada: Songs and Shadows (Sony PlayStation 4)

Indie/Masquerada: Songs and Shadows/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Reviews/RPG/Singapore/Strategy RPG/Tactics RPG/Witching Hour Studios

Review by Matt S. Witching Hour Studios, from Singapore, has an uncanny ability to make games that seem to be designed for me personally. Ravenmark, from a couple of years ago, is exactly the kind of strategy game that, were I to make a game myself, would be aiming for.…

Review: Valkyrie Drive –Bhikkuni– (PC)

action/brawler/Kenichiro Takaki/Marvelous AQL/PC/PC Review/Reviews/Valkyrie Drive –Bhikkuni–

Review by Ginny W. If you’ve ever played a Marvelous game before, then it’s going to be obvious how Valkyrie Drive –Bhikkuni– plays out. The closest point of comparison is likely to be the Senran Kagura games, which have received a rather mixed reception at the hands of critics and…

Review: Cat Quest: A Purrfectly Good Adventure (PC)

August 4, 2017

casual/casual games/Cat Quest/PC/PC Review/Reviews/RPG/The Gentlebros

Review by Ginny W. The Internet has a soft spot for cats of all kinds. Throw a rock in a subreddit and you’re bound to hit at least five pictures of some kind of feline creature (though you may want to refrain from doing that in /r/rule34) – that’s how…

The Friday Ten: The best ten PlayStation VR titles to date

Archangel/Danganronpa/Dexed/Eagle Flight/Farpoint/Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live/Here They Lie/Pinball FX 2 VR/PlayStation VR/Star Trek: Bridge Crew/Summer Lesson/VR

List by Matt S. Virtual Reality is still getting going. It’s not like a new console, in that developers can apply much the same learning as they had to existing games. Building a game for VR requires different thinking to game design, and, a little like the original Nintendo Entertainment…

2D platformer/3DS Review/3DS Reviews/Arzest/Hey! Pikmin/Nintendo/Nintendo 3DS/platformer/Reviews/Strategy

Review by Ginny W. There’s fewer franchises more well-known or more instantly recognisable than Pikmin, and for good reason – it’s carved out and attracted a niche fanbase for its cute-creepy aesthetics and its fast-moving strategy gameplay, and while we haven’t seen a full title since 2013, there was little…

The fast five with Tina Richards: The Aussie making an awesome Japanese-style visual novel

Australia/Interview/Interviews/Quantum Suicide/The Fast Five/Tina Richards

Interview by Matt S. One of the Aussie-developed games that we are really, really looking forward to at DigitallyDownloaded.net is Quantum Suicide, a Japanese-style visual novel with a gorgeous art style, a bit of fan service, and a really intriguing premise. You wouldn’t know it wasn’t being made in Japan…

Review: CastleStorm VR Edition (Sony PlayStation VR)

August 3, 2017

CastleStorm VR Edition/PlayStation VR/Reviews/Strategy/VR Review/Zen Studios

Review by Matt S. Zen Studios might be best known for its (incredible) pinball titles, but simmering under the surface it has CastleStorm, a crazy mix of Angry Birds, tower defence, and strategy game. It’s available on so many platforms now I wasn’t sure I really wanted to play it…
