Arc System Works/BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma/PS3/Release Information/screenshots/Sony PlayStation 3

Arc System Works is well-known for its work with the flashy fighting series Blazblue, and for good reason. This series exudes style and the combat holds up as well. Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma is currently set to release in Japan October 24th of this year, for the Sony PlayStation 3. In…

Dead or Alive/Dead or Alive 5/Interview/Interviews/Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge/Tecmo Koei/Yosuke Hayashi

Yosuke Hayashi has had the ultimate trial by fire. Taking over one of the most popular game development teams within the Tecmo Koei group from Tomonobu Itagaki – that’s Team Ninja for the uninitiated – was always going to be a challenging mission. Itagaki is, after all, one of the…

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace – a trailer and a few new screenshots

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace/screenshots/Sony PlayStation Vita/trailer

We are pretty big fans of Ragnarok Odyssey here, so the news that there would be an enhanced ‘Ace’ version of the game for PlayStation Vita was something I was excited to talk about recently. Well, GunHo Online Entertainment just participated in a conference – and while the whole thing…

Review: Star Trek (PS3)

April 30, 2013

co-op/PlayStation/PlayStation 3/PS3/Reviews/Shooter/Sony/Star Trek

I had hoped against hope that Star Trek would be a great game. Despite being a licensed title, and despite a minimum of hype behind the game I had hoped that what was promised would deliver. So the game is a cover-based team shooter set in the Star Trek universe?…

Hidden Object/PlayStation/PlayStation 3/Reviews/Voodoo Chronicles

I’ll be honest, up until a couple of months ago, I’ve never really played a hidden object game. Having grown up on adventure titles during LucasArts’ golden years, hidden object games (HOG) always felt like watered down versions of their point-and-click cousins. And that’s why I’m torn on Voodoo Chronicles:…

Review: Sacred Citadel (Xbox 360)

April 29, 2013

brawler/deep silver/Microsoft Xbox 360/Reviews/Sacred Citadel/Xbox 360

I am a big, big fan of the Sacred franchise. Some might say they are mere Diablo clones, but the scale and scope of these games – especially Sacred 2 – makes it easy to lose weeks of time exploring a truly massive world. Throw in a reasonably interesting mythology…

Review: Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS3)

April 29, 2013

batman/DC Comics/Injustice Gods Among Us/joker/Mortal Kombat/PlayStation 3 Review/PS3/PS3 Review/Sony PlayStation 3/Superman/Wonder Woman

The premise has appealed to me since the day I first read about it: NetherRealms Studio will take a huge pool of DC characters and plunk them down in a Mortal Kombat-style of video game. It sounded brilliant, but there was at least some cause for concern. After all, while I…

Making games with Construct 2: An introduction

April 28, 2013

Construct 2/PC/Scirra Ltd.

‘Construct 2‘ is a game development suite developed by Scirra Ltd., the same company that created the free, open-source ‘Construct‘ game-making toolset. Having experienced both using other game creation tools and programming video game engines from scratch (Game Makerand Javarespectively), I thought I would try out Construct 2 for myself.…

The weekly discussion: Your favourite characters!

The weekly discussion/weekly chat

From the very earliest eras of game development, characters have been critical to the experience. Would Space Invaders be the same game if it didn’t have those sprites that, in two frames of animation had so much personality that we still instantly recognise them now? Would Nintendo be in the…
