Digitally Uploaded/digitallydownloaded.net/podcast/sex/Shephy

After a certain games journalist came out last week to attack anyone who likes a certain kind of Japanese game by calling them a “pervert” we decided to embrace our inner perviness this week and talk about sex in games. Yes, that’s right, it’s okay to enjoy sexy games, and…

Arcade/Codemasters/Micro Machines World Series/Multiplayer/multiplayer only game/online multiplayer/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Racing Game/Reviews

Review by Sam M. In what is a fond memory of mine, I inherited from my grandfather his collection of Matchbox cars. Some weren’t in that great condition, nor were most of them rare or collectible by any means, but often, much to the amusement of my grand imagination as…

adventure/adventure game/adventure games/Art Game/Australia/non-violent game/open world game/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Reviews/Yonder

Review by Matt S. Yonder is an antidote to the endless sex, violence, and other “mature themes” that have become so commonplace in videogames that we’ve stopped noticing them at all. And I’m not talking about just the extreme examples here; it takes a game with absolutely no conflict at…

FPS/Get Even/PC/PC Review/Psychological Thriller/Reviews

Review by Jim S. Get Even is an odd game to describe. It’s first person and there is shooting but it doesn’t really fit the FPS genre. The game is more about the narrative and is unlike anything I have ever played before. Thankfully, it’s not just different, it’s also…

DDNet Premium/Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantasy Tactics Advance/Game Boy Advance/JRPG/Retro/Retro Reflections/Square Enix/Tactics RPG

Retro reflections by Matt S. The last couple of months has brought us a pretty substantial influx of tactics RPGs. On the Nintendo Switch there was the excellent port of the excellent Disgaea 5, the 3DS got a remake of one of the early Fire Emblems in Fire Emblem Echoes,…

The fast five with Nicole Stark; the ninja pizza developer

July 13, 2017

Australia/Interview/Interviews/Nicole Stark/Ninja Pizza Girl/The Fast Five

Interview by Matt S. Ninja Pizza Girl is one of our favourite Aussie indie games. Not only is it a slick, entertaining speedrun platformer, but it’s also a game that dealt with some pretty serious themes around bullying and the like. This week for the fast five interview, we have…

Review: Flip Wars (Nintendo Switch)

Flip Wars/local multiplayer/Multiplayer/multiplayer only game/Nintendo Switch/Reviews/Switch Review

Review by Matt S. As a rule of thumb we aim to write reviews of at least 1000 words at DDNet. We do that because we like to explore the various themes that games put forward at depth, and all games, regardless of design, are the product of a lot…

Arcade/dual-stick shooter/Housemarque/Nex Machina/PlayStation 4/PS4 Review/Reviews/Shooter/shooters

Review by Nick Hu. The essence of any twin-stick shooter is its core loop. That loop could be broken down into a staggered shift between shoot, move and rest, though in reality it manifests as shoot-while-everything and breath when you can. While the term “shooter” covers such a broad range…
