Toukiden is still only slated for release in Japan, but this game still shows off some pretty nice visuals. In this title, you are hunting demons in an action/adventure title slated for release this summer. There is a playable demo expected to be released later this month. The visuals are…

Review: Ark of the Ages (iPad)

action RPG/Apple/Ark of the Ages/iPad/JRPG/Reviews/XSEED

I was wondering when XSeed would take its first steps into iPad publishing. As specialists in publishing Japanese games, there are surely plenty of opportunities to localise Japan-developed iOS titles emerging as the App Store is now hitting a critical mass over there that has seen so many western developers…

Interview: CD Projekt Red on why fan support is so important

April 2, 2013

CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk/GOG/Interview/Interviews/Michal Nowakowski/The Witcher/The Witcher 3

By any standards of conventional games industry business wisdom, CD Projekt Red has successfully bucked the trend. This is a AAA-game development company that has been PC-first. It has avoided DRM like the plague, and has resisted certain DLC trends. It didn’t even bother throwing in a multiplayer mode in…

Nintendo’s marketing misfires are all that is holding the Wii U back

April 2, 2013

Marketing/Nintendo/Opinion/Wii U

Following its relatively short time on the market, the Wii U has naturally gone through its fair share of scepticism; perhaps a little more. However from a business perspective, this could be considered as no more than a reflex for the industry – and for the most part, not devoid…

Air Combat/Air Conflicts/Air Conflicts Pacific Carriers/PlayStation/PlayStation 3/Reviews

While I’m not a big fan of First Person Shooter genre, I am a big fan of one other kind of military shooter; the kind where you’re in the air. Fighter Flight Simulators are endlessly compelling to me, with the best offering intense dogfights, surprisingly strategic play and of course…

Back in 2010, Capcom released Monster Hunter Tri to the western world, eating up the social lives of hunters everywhere. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate returns players to Moga Village, with plenty of new monsters to hunt as well. Say goodbye to that social life again. Once again the village that…

Apple/GamePad/Opinion

It looks like it is finally happening – if the rumours are true, Apple is set to release an official game controller. This controller can be expected to be designed as Apple’s answer to the TV console – playing games through an Apple TV via iPad or iPhone. If it’s…

The annual Game Developers Conference came to a close less than three days ago. While I am sure it was filled with thoughtful insights and intelligent lectures (GDC, as the name implies, is for game developers and not the average Joe), one moment in particular sparked an internet forest fire…

Interview: Trickstar Games on taking Cricket globally through games

March 31, 2013

505 Games/Ashes Cricket 2013/Cricket/Interview/Interviews/Sports/Trickstar Games

It’s a big year for Cricket. The great Ashes conflict between Australia and England happens this year, in almost back-to-back timeslots – first England and then Australia a few short months later. This won’t mean much to a lot of readers of Digitally Downloaded, but Cricket is a growing sport…

The weekly discussion: The worst game you’ve ever played

March 29, 2013

The weekly discussion/weekly chat

Not everyone has played Superman 64 or Big Rigs (I hope, anyway), but everyone has a game that they wish they had never seen, much less played. Perhaps it was a gift that game with good intentions, or perhaps a review convinced you that a game you thought you would…
