I fell in love with Squeakross: Home Squeak Home during last year’s Wholesome Direct, so much so that I couldn’t stop thinking about it a week after its PC announcement. At the time, I pointed out that it was the perfect game for Nintendo Switch… and now it’s available for both platforms! Developed by Alblune, a two-person Montreal-based studio, Squeakross: Home Squeak Home is a wholesome puzzle-solving experience.
Congratulations are in order, as you have been accepted into the Home Squeak Home program! Meet the program’s manager, Nini, who loves nonogram puzzles. She’s given you a nice home, but it will remain empty unless you solve hundreds of puzzles, each with a different piece of furniture as a prize.
All nonogram puzzles (AKA picross puzzles) follow the same basic rules. The hint numbers on the top and along the side indicate how many squares to fill with cheese in their respective columns/rows. It might sound complex (ugh, numbers!) but it’s pretty simple to learn once you get your hands on some beginner puzzles.
Nini will help guide players through puzzles step-by-step, and the puzzle manual is always available. Logic Assist mode can also help, showing possible solutions with two options: automatic case-solving and showing mistakes. More experienced players might like Nini’s Challenge, offering a difficult variant to each puzzle that unlocks new furniture colours.
