The PSV version of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is set to slither out this Summer.

Both Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater will be released in a combo pack for Sony’s new portable this June the 12th.

Though the collection will only pack together the two games (and leave out the console edition’s third game Peace Walker) it will host a bevy of new features the fans might want to take for a spin. The PS Vita’s touchscreen will be heavily factored into the control schemes and should, at the very least, be neat to play around with.

METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection for the PlayStation®Vita allows fans to experience the series like never before with optimized controls that take full advantage of the Vita’s unique touch-screen and rear touchpad. Using just their fingers, gamers can zoom in on captivating cut-scenes, peek around corners, interrogate enemies, cycle through weapons, and perform rapid attacks with their knife.

There’s a lot of cool stuff wrapped up in that little paragraph. If you’re new to the series, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection seems like it’ll be a solid deal. Will it be enough for long time fans who’ve already played these games on other systems though? I don’t know- how much do you like tactical espionage action?

  • If Vita owners have to pay the same price as PS3 and 360 owners for this game despite not having three games (Peace Walker is omitted from the Vita version), then that is a joke.

And I don't believe a few "gimmicks" (that's the word gamers now use for things they don't like) is going to sell people on a handheld version. I know I couldn't have cared less about MGS3D on 3DS, but then again, I think Kojima is a hack.

  • That was one of the biggest problems I had with the 3DS game. Sure it was an ok port of a brilliant game, but it was priced at the same as the HD collection, and on a nice big screen TV, it looked better on PS3.

Still, gaming on the go is always good, and at least the Vita has dual sticks.

  • Interesting timing for release with E3. I wonder if they're trying to get it our right after any big announcements, hoping to get some money and perhaps free coverage from E3 viewers?
Kind of odd, as I would think right before E3 would be the better way, just because Sony could be showing off other Vita games at E3 that people may decide to hold off on purchasing MGS.

As for, "Still, gaming on the go is always good, and at least the Vita has dual sticks." did the 3DS version not support the Circle Pad? I can't remember, but I think it does.

  • The Circle Pad Pro is something I will never buy. 😛

As such, there are sections of Metal Gear 3D that are nearly unplayable.
