Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition coming this Fall

The updated and enhanced edition of one of the greatest RPGs of all time will be coming to PC’s, Mac’s, and mobile platforms in September- and it’s bringing a treasure chest of improvements along with it.

Of all the Dungeons & Dragons titles I’ve played (and all the RPG’s in general), none have as warm a place in my memory as Baldur’s Gate. The BioWare role-player absorbed way too many hours of my life back when it was released- and for a good while after.

Now the game is headed back to the PC and Mac (and coming to iPad and Android too) with an Enhanced Edition that promises a lot more than prettier graphics. Developer Overhaul Games has announced that the new and improved title will be packing new characters, a brand new quest (and Tales of the Sword Coast too), and literally hundreds of other improvements over the original.

Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

New Adventure: The Black Pits
New Character: Dorn Il-Khan
New Character: Neera the Wild Mage
New Character: Rasaad yn Bashir
A new collection of player character voice sets
Native support for high resolution widescreen displays
Over 400 improvements to the original game

All that and multiplayer that actually supports cross-platform play. Yep, it pretty much promises to swallow your life whole and make sure you spend your September planted firmly indoors- phone off the hook and doors locked.

The PC version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is available for pre-order now right here with the iPad and OSX versions confirmed for September. The Android version? That release date is still out in the ether on that one for now.

  • "A new collection of player character voice sets".
Sold! That was the main reason I never finished BG1; the voices annoyed the hell out of me. Let's hope the new characters sound good!

  • feeling a tiny bit skeptical about that. but only because I'm currently playing the game and I'm almost done and this remake tempts me to start the game all over again for the fourth time.
