Q.U.B.E. frustrates me. Not because the game is bad; the game is actually a very well-constructed puzzle-platformer with a few irritating challenges, but besides that there is nothing quite wrong with the game. What frustrates me is that Q.U.B.E. wants to be more than what it actually is; a fun, filled-with-ideas puzzle game.
Now, if you have been paying close attention to what I have written, you will notice that I have not mentioned anything relating to the story of Q.U.B.E. That is because the game does not have a story. However, the game thinks it has some sort of story to tell. Throughout the game there is a large amount of uncontrollable cut-scenes. The game starts itself with an uncontrollable cut-scene that seems to imply that there is a reason why you are in the situation that you happen to be in. There is even an unexpected turn of events about half-way through the game, which leads to more discoveries being made. However, the game never comments on any of these things and leaves them where the game put them. As some of the puzzle elements are based off of these discoveries and vice-versa, it is almost impossible to solely focus on the puzzle elements and ignore the weak story elements the game presents.

Hmm… I'm only on Section 6 (so after the Event) but the story/lack of story doesn't bother me at all. Some of the puzzles are brilliant, though – the kind that make you feel really smart when you solve them. As you say, it's a fun first-person puzzler, and I think it stands up on those grounds.
im not totally positive but i think i played this game at Pax in boston a few months back and if this is that same game it was wicked fun. It was intense figuring out some of the puzzles..game on
I've almost bought this a number of times. I really need to just buy it.
I've looked at this a couple of times now, but I'm just not sold on the overall design. One of those titles I may grab on the cheap one day, but probably not any time soon.
No matter how good it is, I'm quite reluctant to buy a game that seems to be heavily inspired by Portal (this and Quantum Conundrum). Portal was absolute video game perfection for me, and even playing the QC demo I found myself thinking the entire time how it felt like a bad rip-off of Portal. I know that these are both good games, but since I've played one that was similar and so, so much better, it's hard for me to settle, I guess.
