The EVE universe got a whole lot more action oriented as CCP Games’ PS3 exclusive DUST 514 has finally seen integration- and just in time for the open beta.

DUST 514 is the free to play extension of the long running PC MMO, EVE Online. The game has been in closed beta for months and is marked for open beta (meaning anyone with a PS3 is free to download it) later this month.

The big milestone that’s paved the way for the upcoming open house is that DUST has been successfully merged into its ‘parent’ title and now should be running as intended. The merger of games also marks a very interesting merger of styles as DUST is a pretty straight-up FPS and EVE is a space-sim.

“The launch of the DUST 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. “But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to theDUST 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

Lock and load soldier, the official open beta period (with no further stat resets) begins on January 22nd- only on the PlayStation 3.

  • Love that the Eve business model coolly flashes a finger to the free-to-play movement (nothing against good FTP games, just the growing voice that states all gaming must converge toward this).
Love the complexity of this mashing of two disparate separate game experiences, LOVE the ambition of CCP.
Don't love that Dust is a PS3-only thing.

  • hahah, I had forgetten that Dust was FTP. Was it that dull? Well, I love the idea and the cool screenshots then :p
CCP seems to be centered in long term planning so I'll be interested to see if they can indeed evolve Dust into "ITP"
