In Kingdom of Night, John has to fight for survival when a satanic cult unleashes an ancient evil upon his hometown, or it will be his last night on earth. The anticipated title now has an official launch date in early December, and a new Release Date Trailer showcases never-before-seen gameplay, from infernal boss battles and neon-lit streets to haunting glimpses of the cult-driven chaos overtaking the desert town.
Fun fact: the trailer features the game’s original theme song, composed by Vince DiCola, the legendary composer of the themes for Rocky IV and Transformers: The Movie!
Kingdom of Night is set in an alternate 1987, in the quiet desert town of Miami, Arizona. Teenager John’s night begins as a desperate attempt to save his neighbour, who has been kidnapped by the same satanic cult that accidentally unleashed the ancient evil Baphomet upon the town, turning it into a hellish invasion. The stakes then escalate into a cosmic battle for survival as John fights demons, corrupted townsfolk, and monstrous high school bullies. He has to infiltrate demon lairs and rally the strength to confront Baphomet’s looming fortress.
This ’80s-themed isometric action RPG allows players to choose their class, customize their abilities, and collect unique gear. It features an expansive interconnected map and open-ended quests. Explore the main town freely while unravelling the story, which blends coming-of-age drama, cosmic horror, and true love. The side stories are engaging and serial-like.
The game’s features, via DANGEN Entertainment, include:
- Save Miami – Take down the town’s demons as you get closer to unravelling Baphomet’s grip on Miami. Explore the entire map of the town, interact with a wide cast of NPCs and take on the Demon Generals in the order that you wish.
- Choose Your Class – Choose from 5 different classes: Barbarian, Knight, Rogue, Necromancer and Sorcerer. Each class excels differently, providing a unique play style depending on your choice. The class you choose decides your base style, while the skill trees allow for further customization.
- Shape Your Character – Skill trees are split into three branches, containing 10 different talents each. As you level up, spend allotted points into any of the three branches of your class. Once you have reached level 10 in your first branch, you are free to cross over into another branch, allowing you to fully customize your play style.
- Hoard the Best Gear – Outfit yourself with new equipment via quest rewards, hidden items throughout the town, and scoring random drops from a multi-tiered loot system with variable drop rates. Items range from common to completely unique. The items you collect provide an extra dimension to character stat development and have special abilities that will make you even more powerful.
- Co-op With Your Friends – You don’t have to face the forces of darkness by yourself. In Kingdom of Night, either play through the campaign as John alone, or with a friend in local co-op. Team up and synergize different character classes, becoming a torrent of annihilation that the underworld will fear.
Developed by Friends of Safety and published by DANGEN Entertainment, Kingdom of Night will be released for PC via Steam/GOG/Humble/itch.io on December 2. Console versions are yet to be announced.
