Sanrio fans are already excited about the “unprecedented” free-to-play social VR game Hello Kitty Skyland, despite it being announced only last week and with very little information available about it. Those seeking to learn more about the upcoming VR-exclusive title can participate in a closed beta test to experience part of the game. In Hello Kitty Skyland, players go on adventures and make friends with beloved Sanrio characters along the way.

Exact dates for the closed beta have not been released yet, though it’s scheduled for late this month. There is space for 500 testers, who can register via Hello Kitty Skyland’s official Discord. If there are over 500 applications, participants will be selected by lottery. Anyone selected will be notified via email. The beta test will support Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S.

The closed beta test provides players with the opportunity to try out some of the core multiplayer game mechanics and loops. Feedback will be gathered through surveys and Discord, and then used to refine the UX, controls, and gameplay experience.

Here is a game overview, via Thirdverse:

Hello Kitty Skyland is an innovative social VR game set in a virtual world called “Skyland,” where Sanrio characters live. Players from around the world can gather to enjoy a variety of activities and interactions unlike anything seen before in Hello Kitty games. In addition to immersive encounters with Sanrio characters in VR, the game offers multiplayer experiences that make full use of your hand controls, as well as features such as item crafting and customization of both your personal space and avatar, delivering the unique appeal of VR. Through extensive customization, cooperation, and competition, players can enjoy a truly diverse range of experiences.

Developed (and operated by) Thirdverse, Hello Kitty Skyland will be released in Early Access at the end of 2025 for Meta Quest and other, unannounced major VR platforms.

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
