The classic side-scrolling actioner, Metal Slug is now on mobiles. Well, there goes my afternoon…

I can’t even calculate the stunning amount of time I’ve poured into Metal Slug games over the years. I’m pretty sure I’ve played every incarnation on every system on the planet. Maybe… there have been a heck of a lot of Metal Slug games after all.

In any event, the original MS is now officially posted on the App Store. The game comes complete with some new stuff, online rankings, bluetooth multiplayer (yay!), and touch specific controls.

● An “arcade-perfect” NEOGEO Port with Extra Features!
In addition to the traditional ARCADE MODE, you can select any mission you have previously cleared and play them separately in MISSION MODE. You can play your favorite stages at will and train on the stages that you have not mastered yet!
● Weapon Upgrades and Bonuses!
Receive powerful weapon upgrades and bonus items by rescuing fellow POWs during gameplay! POWs can be found in secret places throughout the battlefield…
● Precise and Customizable Controls!
The Autofire feature allows you to fire your weapons continuously by holding down the button. Furthermore, you can reposition the buttons outside of the game screen area in Window Mode. Enjoy every pixel of METAL SLUG using your own custom controls!
● Engage into furious Multiplayer games via Bluetooth!
The more bullets and rockets, the merrier! Now you can enjoy METAL SLUG with a friend through a Bluetooth connection. Team up to overcome the difficult missions METAL SLUG has to offer!
● Online Rankings!
Compete with players from around the world and try to beat their high scores through the iPhone Online Rankings. Gather experience on the battlefield, and hone your skills to become the Best Player in the World!

Shoot up …um… pretty much everything on iOS and Android right now for $3.99 USD.

  • argh… must… resist… I'm tempted, but I've yet to find an action game / platformer that gets the controls really right. I like the idea of playing this on the small screen, but not if it doesn't feel as good as the original experience.

  • I agree, it wood be cool, I just can't see how this kind of game would work on iOS, personally. This is one of those rare times that I would really need buttons.

  • Agreed, Just feeling those buttons has a huge impact on how I perceive a game. Remember how awesome the original Gameboy felt? Buttons, I tell you, buttons.
