New screens for Runespell: Overture

The RPG/ Poker/ CCG hybrid mix, Runespell: Overture, impressed us when we saw its first trailer late last month. After seeing some more screenshots, we’re even more excited to get our hands on the game!

It’s a good looking game, with clean, clear art on the cards, some nice effects to make things look more dynamic, and a very readable interface.

Enjoy the rest of the screens, and keep an eye on Digitally Downloaded for the full review once the game launches!

  • Have to admit – I had not heard of this game, so I went back using your link and checked out the trailer – looks interesting. I'm a big fan of CCG type games (I've done reviews for MTG on Xbox Live, Culdcept Saga, Spellfire and more). I will have to keep an eye out for this one.

  • Yeah, I'm a big fan of CCGs as well – I can't wait for the PS3 release of Magic the Gathering Tactics.

Question – How is Culdcept? I've always really been interesting in that series, but never had the opportunity to play one.

  • Good morning.

Culdcept was okay. I have my full review here if you're curious:

In a nutshell – I liked that it had full deck editing until Magic: The Gathering for the Xbox Arcade, and it has an interesting Monopoly meshed with MTG feel. Sound and visuals are super-outdated and some of the maps were a bit long for me – but I did like it overall, just not quite as much as I thought I would.

I also did a brief review on MTG Tactics for PC at one time. My hope is they get it cleaned up a lot for the PS3 release – which I think they will.

  • Thanks for that link! It really does sound like the kind of game I'd get a lot out of. Wish there was a PSN/ Steam version – I'd be all over it.

It amazes me that CCG and CMG (collectable miniatures game) game makers don't pay more attention to video games. When was the last time there was a traditional Warhammer video game? Or a D & D Miniatures game?

  • I could not agree more, but it's one of my favorite types – then again, I'm a sucker for strategy and RPG's in general too, and a lot of the best CCG style games pull in elements from one or both of these genres.
