Silverstring Media and indie.io have announced a mid-May release date for relaxing, semi-idle garden game Greenhearth Necromancer. You play as Echo, an enby witch and a newly graduated Actual Necromancer; she recently inherited her grandmother’s apartment. As the newbie at the Greenhearth co-op, you will have to revive a dead garden and find your place in the community. Greenhearth Necromancer will be launching for PC and Mac.

Greenhearth Necromancer deliberately seeks to upend conventional idle game designs: instead of anxiously watching countdown clickers, you are free to grow and revive the garden as you wish by experimenting with necromantic spells, magical potions, and more traditional methods of gardening.

Each plant will respond to the amount of sunlight or water it receives, whether it is traditionally alive or unconventionally undead. Keeping the plants thriving is one half of the game; the other is to determine where Echo belongs in this new community.

The game’s narrative is explored through an event deck that mixes key story moments with random heartfelt events. You are free to define how Echo fits in with the other magical and non-magical residents. The story is written by Lindsay Ishihiro (I Was a Teenage Exocolonist).

Developed by Silverstring Media and published by indie.io, Greenhearth Necromancer will be released on May 11 for PC/Mac via Steam.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
