Remember the last Nintendo Direct? It was so good that I was practically drooling at my keyboard for its entirety. For this PlayStation State of Play, though, my mouth is pretty much dried up. There are very few highlights for me here, so take a look at the gems amongst the shooters. Just a note, there’s a good chance these games are launching for other platforms as well; but since this is a presentation based on PlayStation, that’s only what was included.
Before Your Eyes
Originally released for PC in 2021, Before Your Eyes is a first-person narrative adventure (no guns here!) where players control the story and effect its outcomes with blinks. It’s kind of like being in a dream that way. After you die, board the ship of the Ferryman taking you to the afterlife. To help you pass on, he must learn the story of your life – and sends you back to relive your most important moments. Before Your Eyes will be released for PS VR2 on March 10.
Tchia
Okay, THIS is something that looks great. A girl, a tropical paradise… no guns in sight! Just nature. Wait, I know this game! Tchia is a tropical open-world adventure; I’ve written about it before, first in a recap of a 2022 Wholesome Snack and then when a series of short videos about the game’s inspiration were released. I’m extremely happy to see it here, especially since this trailer is mostly just the gorgeous environment. The game’s location and lore is based of New Caledonia; two childhood friends from the island moved to Montreal and opened up a game studio. Tchia will be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 21.
Humanity
Humanity is the definition of intriguing. Play as a Shiba Inu who must command massive marching crowds to jump, turn, float, shoot, and climb their way to salvation. There are 90 stages in Story Mode, each filled with obstacles, enemies, puzzles, and skills. Then there’s user-made challenges, which is pretty self-explanatory. Humanity will be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, with PS VR and PS VR2 support, in May 2023.
Goodbye Volcano High
Ko_Op! I love Ko_Op! I’ve been following the development of Goodbye Volcano High for awhile now, and it’s another game that I’m glad to see getting some screen time in such a well-viewed showcase. It’s a cinematic narrative adventure about the end of an era and the beginning of a love story. In that way, it actually reminds me of Raptor Boyfriend. But this is quite different than a normal visual novel. It’s described as a combination of cinematic narrative/rhythm game/interactive movie. Guide Fang through the end of their high school years, with branching narrative and far-reaching consequences. Goodbye Volcano High will be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on June 15.
Resident Evil 4
I had to include ONE shooter, and this is the one. You just KNOW when you’re looking at a Resident Evil game. Although Leon is a dead giveaway (ha, dead, see what I did there?)… Resident Evil 4 Remake will be released on March 24.

It’ll be good to have BG 1 2 and 3 on my PS5. I haven’t played BG 3 since the earliest of early access. I hope it’s a bit better now (I’m sure it is).
