The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles are just around the corner on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. If you’ve played any Phoenix Wright game before then you know how these play… but what is interesting about these two is the historical context.

Make no mistake, these games are now historical fiction. However, they do depict a fascinating (if quite dark) part of Japanese history, and knowing what was going on in the era that these games take place will help you to enjoy the themes and narrative all the more.

In this video, I share a quick summary of the history of the time, and highlight how it is relevant to the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. You can also check out some footage from the first case of the first game.
