There’s a Neptunia… SHMUP… on the way

I had to check my calendar to make sure I hasn’t somehow Groundhog Day-ed my way back to April 1, but, no, Neptunia Shooter isn’t a joke. It’s the real deal, and its heading to PC (via Steam) this year.

I’m not sure why Neptunia Shooter couldn’t also be released on console, since it’s clearly a lightweight little game, but Idea Factory’s going to do what Idea Factory wants to. Regardless of platform, Neptunia Shooter looks absolutely hilarious, with plenty of 8 bit-styled absurdity in character, monster, and environment design.

The game is also promising some Mega Man-styled progression; at the end of each level, you square off against a boss, and on beating that boss, you add them to your team, giving you access to a wider range of combat abilities thereafter.

There’s also online leaderboards to prove your skills to the world, as you’d expect. With no firm release date at this stage, we’ve got a while to wait for more information on Neptunia Shooter, but it’s great to see Idea Factory continuing to find ways to get creative with its premiere franchise.
