Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate introduces the series’ first transgender character

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is joining a handful of other AAA games from the past few years (The Last of Us, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mortal Kombat X) to feature a transgender character. Ned Wynert is a trans man who is a supporting character in the game; he is also a source of quests. Ubisoft has been working towards a more inclusive approach to game design, including allowing players to play as a male of female character in Syndicate. They have also updated the text at the beginning of the game to include gender identity and sexual orientation in addition to the original statement which includes mention of multicultural beliefs. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will be released for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 23.

The Escapists: The Walking Dead coming this week

In just a few short days, you will be able to play the game that combines the story of The Walking Dead with the gameplay of The Escapists. Team17 has announced that The Escapists: The Walking Dead will be released for PC and Xbox One on September 30. If you missed our preview of The Escapists: The Walking Dead, now it a great time to catch up!

Upcoming Hyrule Warriors won’t support 3D on older 3DS systems

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have some regarding Hyrule Warriors on 3DS. If you have a New 3DS or a New 3DS XL, this news won’t effect you. But if you’re like me, with a two-year-old 3DS that should still have a lot of life left, you may be unhappy. Koei Tecmo’s upcoming game will not have 3D if you’re using it on an older system. This decision was made to make the game resemble the Wii U version as closely as possible, but simultaneously alienates the majority of the console’s current users. Quite frankly, I’m worried this is a continued effort (that started with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D) to phase out of older 3DS systems and a push by Nintendo to have players upgrade. Ahem. Hyrule Warriors will be available for 3DS early in 2016.

New Persona 5 screenshots showcase some new characters

There’s a new batch of Persona 5 screenshots available thanks to Famitsu (and via DualShockers) – what a wonderful way to help us forget the delay! Most of the screenshots focus on characters, especially the fifth character Yusuke Kitagawa and his Persona, Goemon. We have a tiny teaser image here for you, but check out the rest over at DualShockers.

Does any of this news tickle your fancy or make you steaming mad? Let us know in the comments! And meet us again next week for a new edition of Catch-up coffee Monday.
