These first two paragraphs will be a mix of news and my opinion, so please bear with me. Square Enix seems to have zero idea what to do with the Life is Strange series anymore. I’d say they need Don’t Nod back in the developer seat, but Deck Nine did a phenomenal job with 2021’s Life is Strange: True Colors. So the combination of Square Enix and Deck Nine seems to be getting desperate following the dismal reviews of 2024’s Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Enter the next game, which brings fan favourite Chloe back for the conclusion of her story arc. And she’s not the only thing back: so is Max’s Rewind power. Max and Chloe reunite at Max’s workplace, which is also the setting of Double Exposure, Caledon University. Life is Strange: Reunion will be released this March for PC and consoles.
Have Square Enix and Deck Nine gone mad?! Fans hated Double Exposure. If Reunion is similar in any capacity, it will destroy the idea of Max and Chloe for fans. Nobody has touched contemporary Chloe since the original Life is Strange; the closest was Deck Nine’s first game in the series, Before the Storm, but that was a prequel. Or consider the comic series, which also “concluded” Max and Chloe’s story. One wrong move and the entire franchise could collapse; I really do not want that to happen. I’d rather the series go straight to a new story with new characters, because Max and Chloe’s story is already perfect to me. I’ve already stated that True Colors was one of the best games in the series. More of that, please.
Now, let’s get to pure facts!
Max Caufield continues to work as a photography teacher in Life is Strange: Reunion. She returns from a weekend away from the university to find it ablaze, with the raging inferno destroying the grounds and ending the lives of countless people — including Max’s friends and students. Her Rewind power from the original Life is Strange returns, and Max jumps through a selfie to three days back in time. She must uncover how the fire began to stop the fiery disaster.
This is when Chloe Price herself arrives at Caledon. She is there because (spoiler!) Max merged the timelines at the end of Double Exposure (/spoiler). Chloe is haunted by nightmares of a past that she never lived, and her grip on reality is unravelling. She needs Max’s help.
Players can play as both Max and Chloe, alternating perspectives as the story unfolds. Use Max’s Rewind power to undo and redo decisions, change the course of conversations, and manipulate the environment to solve four-dimensional puzzles. Use Chloe’s Backtalk ability, quick wits, and attitude to sway key suspects when Max can’t.
Several versions of the game will be available: Standard, Twin Pack, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions. Players who pre-order or purchase any version of the game before May 5, 2026, will receive the Max and Chloe Classic Outfits DLC. The digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game, a digital mini soundtrack, a digital art book, a digital comic, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary. The Twin Pack includes the standard editions of Life is Strange: Double Exposure and Life is Strange: Reunion; anyone who pre-orders will gain immediate access to Double Exposure.
Mega fans will want to get their hands on the physical Collector’s Edition. It includes the base game, a collector’s goods box and sleeve, a 12″ vinyl soundtrack, a double-sided poster, a Rewind symbol felt slipmat, three double-sided guitar plectrums, and three Polaroid art cards featuring Max and Chloe. In North America, this edition can also be purchased without the game. The Collector’s Edition can only be purchased through Square Enix.
Developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix, Life is Strange: Reunion will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series on March 26.
