During today’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Square Enix revealed a new trailer for its upcoming Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. In addition, the company released new information about the JRPG remake compilation. These remakes follow the release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake — you can read DDNet’s review of that here. Let’s get started with the trailer and move on to the new information!
Dragon Quest I
The first game is set in the land of Alefgard during a time of peace that came about due to the heroic efforts of the legendary Erdrick, the Lord of the Underworld. Unfortunately, the peace did not last because the diabolical Dragonlord has risen. As a descendant of Erdrick, the player’s destiny is to defeat the new evil and rescue the world once again. The hero, however, only learns this when he follows a mysterious voice heard in a dream to Tantegel. They will advance through a vast world, trying to explore every corner and facing monsters head-on. The battles are turn-based with commands.
Dragon Quest II
The second game is set many years later. The new descendants from the last Erdrick, along with his scions, founded three kingdoms that were thriving during peacetime. There are three kingdoms: Midenhall, founded by Erdrick himself; Moonbrooke, where mages and priests gather; and Cannock, surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests. But evil is stirring, and a sudden invasion of monsters brings the world into darkness again.
A band of young princes and princesses from Erdrick’s lineage must step forward and honour their legacy. The protagonist is the Prince of Midenhall, who will gain more companions and modes of transportation on his adventures. The battles are once again turn-based with commands. The original game’s party includes the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke, while this remake adds the Princess of Cannock. The vast world features many towns and castles.
New scenarios
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake introduces new scenarios to the original stories. In Dragon Quest I, players face encounters with faeries, dwarves, and other unfamiliar, powerful enemies. It features a character who appears in Dragon Quest III. Dragon Quest II includes towns and villages not seen in the original games, and monsters searching for… something…
Developed by Artdink Corporation and published by Square Enix, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and Xbox Series on October 30.
