Late last year, Square Enix released Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Remakes are normal, but remaking a game without remaking its prequels? That’s strange. Narratively, though, it makes sense: Dragon Quest III is a prequel to Dragon Quest I and II. Today, Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will launch in late October, nearly one year after its predecessor. A Switch 2 version was stealthily added to the press release, and the publisher also revealed details of a physical Collector’s Edition.
Here is a brief description of the game, from Square Enix:
In Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, players take control of the descendants of Erdrick, the legendary hero whose legacy is passed down through generations following the events of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake … In addition to beautiful HD-2D graphics, a refined battle system, numerous quality-of-life updates and major story additions, both remakes will feature a variety of new content. Details about this new content will be revealed at a later date.
The Collector’s Edition of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be available for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series. It includes a physical standard edition of the game, a complete set of character and monster blocks (six characters, a dog, two boss monsters, and a logo), the Outstanding Outfit Kit (a ring of strength, set of slime earrings, map cap, and arriviste’s vest), two digital wallpapers, and the pre-order bonus.
Players who also own Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake can unlock a dog suit to wear in Dragon Quest 1 and a cat suit to wear in Dragon Quest II.
Developed by Artdink Corporation and published by Square Enix, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series on October 30.
