We're expected to migrate to Switch 2 so quickly!

Today’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase was just as jam-packed as any other Nintendo Direct, complete with new game announcements, surprise drops, and new trailers for anticipated titles. Square Enix had a significant presence, announcing two new games and revealing trailers for other upcoming titles. The surprising thing to me is how heavily-skewed towards Switch 2 the showcase was — Nintendo, I’m not fully ready to let go!

Game highlights

Once Upon a Katamari

After the King of All Cosmos and his family accidentally destroy Earth, the moon, and countless stars, it’s up to players to roll up objects through the Jurassic Period, the Ice Age, historic Japan, and other eras. The game features all-new stages, a new soundtrack, and a new four-player multiplayer mode. Once Upon a Katamari will be released for Nintendo Switch on October 24.

Chillin’ by the Fire

Who doesn’t love a reveal and a simultaneous surprise drop?! Chillin’ by the Fire is a campfire simulation game where players build and maintain campfires in various locales. Combat weather and climate to grow the fire to level 10, then advance. The world moves fast enough these days, so take a few minutes to chill by the fire! Chillin’ by the Fire is available now for Switch 2.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure – Wheatflour Wonderland

It only got a seven-second clip during a montage, but for me, the star of the show was Sunblink and Sanrio’s announcement of the first DLC for Hello Kitty Island Adventure! Wheatflour Wonderland introduces Cogimyun, a popular character, to the game. Players can explore the new biome, craft powerful wands, unlock the story, and transform into their most magical selves. Hello Kitty Adventure Island – Wheatflour Wonderland will be released for Nintendo Switch on September 18.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales

There was a heavy Square Enix presence in today’s presentation, but one stands out. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales was created by the same folks behind Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default. It combines HD-2D visuals with top-down, action-adventure gameplay. Explore an untamed continent to reveal its mysterious history, and navigate battles with the help of a fairy. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will be released for Switch 2 in 2026.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
