I’ve had my eye on Arcadian Atlas for seven years now – that’s how long it took from the time I backed the game during its crowdfunding campaign to its PC launch this July. As a result of the campaign, I do own the game on PC… but here’s the thing: I’m not really a PC player. I can do it, I just prefer the console experience. So I’m quite pleased that getting the game from PC to consoles has only taken a short time, and Arcadian Atlas will be launched for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox at the end of this month.

Arcadian Atlas is a narrative-driven isometric tactical RPG set in a nation tearing itself apart thanks to political factions. Atlas, a power that can change life in an instant, is about to awaken. Nobody is safe, especially considering the queen is willing to do anything – anything – to ascend the throne. The story promises to push players into emotionally-driven choices.

As the civil war rages, two lovers brought together by war find themselves torn between their sworn queen and the princess who has risen up to take the throne back. Fate brings more people together, too: a rogue magician who wants to unravel the land’s secrets meets a young girl who is the second heir to the throne. Players will have to go against monsters, ruthless foes, a scorned daughter, and a queen who would kill her own husband to be throned.

The game features deep tactical battles spanning dozens of maps, including ancient ruins, seaside villages, snow-capped mountains, and verdant forests. Build an army of powerful troops, then customise their classes and skills. There are 12 classes to choose from, with 25 unique skill trees. Choose their weapons, armour, and accessories. There is a total of over 150 unique combat skills. As players travel Arcadia, they will experience over 70 campaign encounters.

Developed by Twin Otter Studios and published by Serenity Forge, Arcadian Atlas will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on November 30. It is currently available for PC via Steam.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
