It would be a bit of an understatement to describe Inti Creates as a fan-favourite development studio. Since its founding in 1996 by ten former members of Capcom, the company has been responsible, especially, for the Mega Man Zero series, amongst many others (Gal*Gun!).
Although this news isn’t Mega Man-related, Inti Creates today has announced the development of a completely new title, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, and it is more closely akin to Castlevania than anything else.
The game itself depicts the story of two playable sister demon hunters who must traverse into their now decrepit, gothic school castle for redemption from devilish dangers. These two sisters however aren’t original characters, instead being derived from Gal*Gun: Double Peace, interestingly enough! It leaves you wondering what will happen to their skirts as much as anything else…
The sisters, Shinobu and Maya Kamizono, are more than pretty faces, however! Supposedly, a key gameplay mechanic resides either around keen and precise co-op gameplay, or a strategic solo switching between the two sisters, one of which specialises in melee combat, while the other has powerful ranged attacks.
The pixelated gothic-horror aesthetic of Grim Guardians: Demon Purge has become a bit of a classic combination in retro-style gaming, and fans have immediately expressed their excitement for its eventual release! Additionally, there’s a ‘Project Kickoff Trailer’, heavily outlining the importance and ability to switch between the two sisters on the fly, further galvanising its importance.
No release date has been given thus far, but it’ll be available for purchase on PC (via Steam), PS4/5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. We’ll just have to keep an eye on any new developments in the coming weeks.
