13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is the most gorgeous looking game

The PlayStation Blog has posted a 20-minute gameplay video clip of the much-delayed (but finally coming) 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and… it is looking absolutely spectacular. Vanillaware has always had a mastery over 2D art (think Dragon’s Crown or Odin Sphere), and this new one looks like it takes things to a whole different level.

Even after watching this video, I’m not entirely sure I understand what it’s all about, but it seems to be a narrative adventure thing with kaiju battles, which is a near-perfect phrase. It looks like you’ll be alternating control across a number of different protagonists, with the main setting being a school… and there are gym uniforms for the girls, which is a pristine bit of fan service. For now, though, it’s the ruined vision of Tokyo which takes centre stage… because what a gorgeous backdrop it is.

We’ll all have our hands firmly on the game when it lands on September 22.
