News by Matt S.
Allow me an indulgence, if you will, because DDNet has hit a serious milestone – we have now published 10,000 articles. From our frequent news updates, to our attempt to review everything that is genuinely interesting, and our less frequent (but hopefully still interesting!) interviews, features, film coverage, anime musings, books reviews and videos, we’ve managed to survive and grow long enough to hit the big 10K.
Given where this site started – as a little blog that I just threw random thoughts on that I couldn’t get published at the media outlet that I was working at the time – it’s been one wild ride to here. Now the site has contributions from over a dozen people, and there’s podcasts, videos and even visual novels. The site has a mascot (and Dee Dee is so beautiful, if I do say so myself). This year we go to TGS to cover the best show in the gaming space for the fifth consecutive year. We’re listed on Metacritic and other aggregate sites. For a website that is unashamedly niche in its coverage, I like to think we do a pretty good job of being a central resource for people who fit into that niche.
Of course, we have no intention of slowing down from here. We’re going to continue to find ways to grow and offer the most comprehensive coverage that we can, but I wanted to say “thank you” to all our readers, too. Without readers, and without knowing that there are people out there that do appreciate what we do, then motivation to do any of this would simply not be there. But we are hugely motivated, and that’s because we have the best damn audience out there.
So, once again, thank you for reading DDNet over the years. For a bit of a laugh, have a read of our very first review: Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement on PlayStation 3, and take a look at what the site looked like in its first iteration (courtesy of Wayback Machine). I think you’ll find we’ve come quite a long way, both in terms of the quality of our coverage, and the site itself:
So, once again, thanks to all the amazing readers, and the incredible writers that have contributed to this crazy little corner of the Internet over the last (nearly 10) years. It’s been a hell of a ride.
(Also, if you are feeling generous, please do back me on Patreon – you’ll get all the Dee Dee visual novels for free if you do, and given that we don’t want to rely heavily on advertisements or other irritating avenues for revenue, the Patreon support is so valuable to us).
