I’m still not sure Root Letter needed a live action remake any more than Aladdin did, but on the other hand, I’ll never turn down an opportunity for more Root Letter, so I’m very much excited for the upcoming Root Letter: Last Answer. Besides, unlike Aladdin, with this one you can switch off the live action at any point to enjoy the stunning art, as the game was originally intended.

We now know that Root Letter: Last Answer will be released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 30 in Europe and Australia, and September 3 in North America. This is one of those rare times you’ll probably want to secure yourself a copy of the Day One edition, too, because the bonus is a 100-page art book, and given the quality of art in this game, that’s a genuinely impressive addition.

For those who haven’t played Root Letter yet, it’s a mystery visual novel, set in regional Japan. What made it so enjoyable (and you can read our review of the original here), is the way it depicted life in a sleepy regional city, as well as the level of intrigue the developers managed to work into the narrative.
