Trailer: The nurturing beauty and survivalist melancholia of Shelter 2

Nature is the most fabulous collection of phenomena. Without the trespass of human influence, she offers every organism within her biosphere a fair chance at life or death. No animal is preferred over another. Even the noblest (and cutest) of creatures perish before they can pass on traits to their offspring. But that will not be you. In Might and Delight’s Shelter 2, you will hunt, you will gather, and you will make damn sure, by the passion of your claws, that your children are defended from harm.

Those claws belong to a female Lynx, a creature amidst the food chain who begins as pregnant but later gives birth. Her cubs are what she lives for, what she breathes and fights and starves for. And from this trailer, you can see the distances she will travel, the prey she will fell, and the comfort she will offer to see that her babies are properly nurtured.

Is it just me, or does the patterned art style and the combination of ominous and heartfelt tones strum a visceral chord? One second I was ready to pounce on a deer, and the next I was hankering for a cuddle.

Shelter 2 will be strumming the chord of your parental instincts during Q1 of 2015 via Steam. Man, am I looking forward to a good hunt (and a good cuddle).
