The PSN update was worth waiting for

Lots of great content rolled out this week across the Playstation Network. Among the highlights- Wheels of Destruction, I Am Alive, and free Shank 2, NFS 2 Unleashed, and Silent Hill for Plus subby’s

First, if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, go download Shank 2 right now. It’s a terrifically old school action title and it’s free for goodness sake!

Now that that’s out of the way, a few big PSN releases finally dropped with I Am Alive and Wheels of Destruction. Alive might not have been received all that generously by the press when it debuted on Xbox Live a short while ago, but it’s still a very ambitious game with a lot going for it.

Wheels (20% off for Plus members BTW) sort of feels like Tron meets Twisted Metal. It has a great, futuristic shine that really makes it stand out against the usual post-apocalyptic look that these types of games brandish. It also tends to play differently- like a first person shooter, as classes and even game modes (like capture the flag) play a big part.

Also worth mentioning this week are free copies of Silent Hill (PS One) and Need for Speed 2 Unleashed for Plussers and the still rolling Spring Fever sale. Stand outs there are the criminally underrated Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and [prototype], which has an amazing looking sequel coming very soon. Two very neat titles that don’t get too much love in general.
