Australian devs announce war journalism game, Warco

This is something very different, and will be a very refreshing take on the horrors of war after so many years of glorifying it through the likes of Call of Duty; Australian developers have announced a game in which you play as a war journalist.

Warco has been shown off in a behind-closed-doors video, but according to MCV it works like this: It plays out in first person, in a wartorn urban environment. The player is tasked with capturing footage of specific types of action, while experiencing all kinds of horrors, and the “win conditions,” such that it is, is to survive and escape with the footage in tact.

So it’s a first person non-shooter. But this is a game still. You’re able to share the footage you’ve captured via social networks in the form of a news broadcast, and has been developed in collaboration with media representatives to maintain realism.

The game is currently hunting for a publisher (and if there is any justice in the world, it will get a publisher), and is the maiden project for Defiant Development; a start-up developer that has emerged from the closure of high profile studios in Australia, such as two THQ developers, and Krome Studios.

The game is being funded with the assistance of various media Government bodies, and has no release date.
