Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA have announced the first DLC for dark samurai action RPG Nioh 3, titled Hell Rising. It features new weapons, Martial Arts, Ninjutsu, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores and more. Travel to Edo in 1951, during the Keian era, and discover the castle town plunged into chaos following the future shogun’s death. Cooperate with a one-eyed swordsman and a Spanish envoy to unravel the new mysteries that surround the Spirit Stones, all in an effort to restore peace.
There is a new open-field map—the Keian era— that is a hellish wasteland where yokai, human rebels, and alchemists roam. You can prepare for new deadly encounters using new weapons, the hoko and shield, for both Styles. Basic attacks combine the defence of the shield with the offence of the short spear, plus there are other, more tactical moves.
A new equipment category has been added: the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scroll. Enemies will rarely and randomly drop a Picture Scroll as loot, but you must achieve victory in the automatically generated battle associated with that scroll to equip it. These battles are replayable, allowing you to randomly alter one of the scroll’s special effects while also strengthening it.
A new difficult setting has been added for those who want a third playthrough: the Enlightened One’s Journey. This extremely difficult mode has enemies randomly receiving curses that will make them far more powerful—but they reward you with divine-rarity items if you succeed in defeating them.
Finally, you will be able to enhance your character builds with divine-rarity Grace set bonuses and powerful special effects.

Here is a description of Nioh 3, via Koei Tecmo:
In Nioh 3, released in February 2026, players take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, poised to become the next shogun during Japan’s prosperous Edo era. The story unfolds on a larger scale than ever before in series history, covering various eras and regions including Edo Castle, the Totomi region during the Warring States era, the Heian era’s capital city of Kyoto, and, for the first time in the franchise’s history, the Bakumatsu era. Players can freely explore each era as a vast open field, featuring beautiful and distinct environments.
Developed by Team NINJA and published by Koei Tecmo, Nioh 3 is now available for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. Hell Rising will be released for both platforms on August 19.
