Koei Tecmo and Gust have announced that The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother will launch in March 2027. New gameplay details have been revealed, and a new gameplay trailer premiered to celebrate the start of pre-orders. This is the first console game adaptation of The Apothecary Diaries. Meet new characters, playing as Jinshi and Maomao (Cat) as they become entangled in this exclusive new story.
Follow Maomao as they try to unravel the secrets of the Five Mysteries and solve the Five Curses. Maomao will meet a familiar cast of characters alongside brand-new ones. The new characters have been conceived by series author Hyuganatsu, and include Yanxi, a high-ranking official in the Bureau of Court Etiquette, known for her accurate fortune-telling skills; Guanyu, a travelling actor; and Chenhan, a regular patron of the Verdigris House who has been targeted by baseless accusations and is unable to defend himself effectively. Mao Mao will fulfill quests and deliver requested items such as medicine. Each time, her trust increases with the character, unlocking side stories.
You will mainly play as Maomao, but you can also explore the rear palace as Jinshi and Maomao (Cat), who can obtain information that Maomao cannot. Jinshi can use his position to obtain statements from people who refuse to speak with Maomao, and Maomao (Cat) can reach high places to find clues, eavesdrop on conversations, and retrieve evidence. Later, you can play as the Quack Doctor and Leomen while concocting medicines, affecting the mini-game difficulty.
Anyone who pre-orders a digital copy of the game by March 17, 2027 will receive the Apothecary’s Tasteful Accessory Pack as a digital pre-order bonus. Anyone who purchases a physical or digital copy of the game before March 31, 2027 will receive the Apothecary’s Starter Kit and Modest Accessory Pack as an early purchase bonus.
Digitally, there are two editions: standard and Digital Deluxe. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game, a Formal costume pack for Maomao and Jinshi, a Fantasy costume pack for Maomao, and a Fashion accessory pack for Maomao (Cat).
Developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Switch on March 18.
