Game highlights

Tenebris Somnia (Saibot Studio, Andrés Borghi, New Blood Studio)

Launches for PC and consoles on October 16.

At first glance, Tenebris Somnia might seem like just another 2D horror game. But toss in some full-motion video, and it becomes fascinating. It plays like Silent Hill or Resident Evil, adapted into a retro 8- or 16-bit era. Struggle to survive while solving puzzles and battling horrific creatures. As you reach key points, you will see sequences from a different viewpoint: live-action video with real actors and practical effects.

Threads of Time (Riyo Games)

In development for PC via Steam and Xbox Series.

Originally announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, Threads of Time is a gorgeous love letter to JRPG classics. It is a turn-based, story-rich adventure game featuring charming characters. Your goal is to unravel a sinister, era-spanning plot. Explore different eras, assemble your party, and restore the ancient order of the Time Knights. The plot unveils itself through striking cutscenes.

Screenbound (Crescent Moon Games, Radical Forge)

Launches across all platforms on September 10.

Screenbound is a 5D platformer where you control a 2D handheld game and a 3D world at the same time. After finding an old, Game Boy-like device in your mom’s garage, you switch it on, and reality tears apart. In another dimension, you still have the handheld. You need to control the 2D game on the console and yourself in the 3D world. The first cartridge includes a side-scrolling platformer, while the second includes a Zelda-type adventure game.

Apple Crumble (Happy Broccoli Games)

Launches for PC/Mac/Linux in 2026.

Developed by the team behind the Duck Detective games, Apple Crumble is an interactive mystery inspired by things like Mouthwashing and Knives Out. In the game, it’s your granny’s birthday, and someone is trying to murder her. All your family members are suspects, as is the strange man in your childhood bedroom. Explore the home, reconnect with your family, and learn who to trust before teatime.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
