Digitally Downloaded covers the news that Game Freak's Pocket Card Jockey is coming to Apple Arcade.

Game Freak is more than Pokémon – something that is often forgotten given the size of its main property. It’s also not owned by Nintendo, which is something that is often forgotten given that the Pokémon series is exclusive to Nintendo consoles. Game Freak’s next game is coming to Apple Arcade on January 20, and it’s genuinely exciting. It’s called Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!

The original Pocket Card Jockey was released on the Nintendo 3DS via the eShop, and never quite got the attention it deserved (we were part of the problem there. Though we loved the game, we never actually reviewed it – from memory it was a busy time for big releases). Basically, it’s a horse racing simulation, but you’ll never guess how you actually play it… it’s played via Solitaire, the card game.

It has to be seen in action to be believed, but I promise you it really does work. This game is impossible to put down once you start playing it. This new one on the Apple Arcade promises to be exactly the same game as its predecessor, just now with the races themselves being rendered in 3D (on the 3DS the racing was 2D). The horseies are so cute in 3D!

Horse racing itself is a horrible sport of cruelty to the animals, but Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! is adorable, and looks set to be an excellent pickup for Apple Arcade, early in the year.

  • I am still playing this game on my 3DS. I love it. I might have to renew my Apple subscription to give this one a go.
