Wholesome Direct 2022

Anytime there’s a Wholesome Direct, I’ll basically drop everything to watch. I’ve never encountered a showcase so likely to illicit an “awwwww” response so many times! I’m a little bit in the dark about what to expect this year… except Ooblets. I 100% expect Ooblets to be featured, as the game has been in the past and is nearly it’s full launch date (it’s available now but only in Early Access).

Game Highlights

Lumbearjack

Jack wants to return nature to its former glory with the help of his axe and his friends. Slice through machinery, slap sense into humans, and thwart sinister plans. Lumbearjack is out now for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch, and on June 14 for Xbox Series and Xbox One.

The Garden Path

A slice of life sim about the joy of gardening, designed to be played in short bursts. It will be released this year for PC/MAC/LINUX via Steam and Nintendo Switch

Usagi Shima

A bunny collecting game! I’m not even kidding. Decorate a deserted island and make friends with various adorable bunnies.

How to Say Goodbye

Move ghosts forward in the afterlife in How to Say Goodbye, a game about grief, sensitivity, and saying goodbye. This was featured in Day of the Devs earlier this week.

Paper Animal RPG

Once upon a time there was a small, peaceful animal village… until the king disappeared. Find the king. Explore an ever-changing, board-game sized world. Each playthrough is different. Meet cute characters, and relax at the campfire. You can even hatch dinosaurs!

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

Meet new characters, enjoy new features, and serve new drinks to patrons. The original was phenomenal, and I cannot wait to play the sequel.

Ooblets

OOBLETS! I love Ooblets. I will always talk about Ooblets. It’s a garden sim where you collect cute creatures during card-based dance battles. Nobody dies: they’ll give you a seed! It will leave Early Access in the coming months.

Potion Permit

The residents of the town need healing, and you’re the best chemist around. Diagnose, gather, and brew in this open-ended sim RPG.

Critter Crops

A Halloween-themed farming sim who ran away due to her abilities. Unlock magical spells and restore an island to its former glory.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
