The 1998 GameBoy incarnation of Mystical ninja posts to the eShop’s Virtual Console this week along with a solid looking new title with Fractured Souls.

How long has it been since there’s been a new Mystical Ninja game anyway? Aside from a few mobile titles and a DS game that got lost somewhere, the last western audiences saw of Goemon was 1998 on the N64. Now there’s a blast from the past.

I last remember the character from the SNES games- never played the GameBoy title. Now I’m thinking I just might have to. Nostalgia is a powerful thing kids.

Having nothing even remotely to do with anything nostalgic (save the genre), Fractured Soul also posted this week. This platformer seeks to do something that DS games rarely are able to- use the 3DS’ touchscreen and main screen as one big monitor.

The graphics look really nice on this one and it kinda reminds me of Shadow Complex, which can’t be a bad thing. It is a little pricey at twelve bucks American, but if it’s as good as it looks there honestly shouldn’t be too much complaining about that.

  • My only experience with the Mystical Ninja series was the first Goemon game on the Nintendo 64. I rented it from Blockbuster. Ah, memories. 🙂

  • This game has been on the 3DS virtual console in Australia for a couple of weeks and…. Don't soil the memories of the N64 game by buying this, is all I can say 😛
