The weekend discussion: “What are you playing this weekend?”

1 min read

Welcome to a new weekly feature at Digitally Downloaded! We all like games, and we all like to talk about games so, while the weekend brings us no news to ponder over, let’s talk about games!

Each week we’re going to have a different discussion topic to run over the weekend – we’ll mix things up and we’d love for you to jump in and join the conversation.

So to kick things off, let’s have an easy starter: “What game(s) are you playing this weekend?”

Look forward to hearing from you!

This is the bio under which all legacy DigitallyDownloaded.net articles are published (as in the 12,000-odd, before we moved to the new Website and platform). This is not a member of the DDNet Team. Please see the article's text for byline attribution.

  • I'll kick things off, since I started the discussion and all 😉

For me I'm going to play Lollipop Chainsaw again – seriously love that game, and I'm also working my way through The Witcher 2, which I've finally been able to pick up on Xbox 360, and I really, really like that game.

Nothing released on the eShop or at retail for the 3DS that I'm interested in, unfortunately, so no Nintendo gaming for me (unless I pick up Fortune Street on the Wii), and I'm seriously considering going to the Apple store to get a new iPad as my existing one is finally starting to die after years of daily hard work.

So in other words, a pretty good weekend of games for me 😀

  • I'll be playing through the rest of Ghost Recon (time permitting), playing the Spider-Man demo on the 3DS, and reading a TON of comic books. I've got three weeks of backlog to catch up on 🙂
Now that you mention The Witcher 2 though… I really have to pick that one up.

  • What are your thoughts on Ghost Recon? How did your experience compare to my review? Rather curious, as I'm not exactly a FPS expert 😛

And yes, absolutely give The Witcher 2 a run. It's genuinely the best western RPG of the generation… perhaps ever. Well and truly above Skyrim, and even ahead of Dragon Age: Origins. The storytelling in that game is virtually literature.

Which comic books do you read?

    What's the meaning of life?

    So many questions! 😉

  • I'm thinking of either starting Saints Row 2 or finally getting around to Oblivion and get the initial glued-to-the-screen phase out of the way before my life starts anew on Monday. =P

Also, I think I might be digging through Limbo in my spare time, as I bought Humble Indie Bundle 5.

  • Oh yes, do play Limbo – it's not a very long game, but it'll stick with you for a long time afterwards. Very, very affecting 😀

  • I'm about half way through GR at this point and I think you're spot on. I dig Clancy in a big way. Very solid shooter- I can't believe it hasn't gotten a better reception.
On Tuesday, I'll be picking up LEGO Batman 2, but Witcher is calling me man. Everything I hear about it is so positive.
As for comics- it's almost all superhero stuff for me. Spidey, Batman (Court of Owls has been amazing), Justice League… stuff like that. I actually just started writing reviews of some indy and Dark Horse stuff too- it's fun to get back into the industry in some small way :)Meaning of life? Is that like 'what is best in life'? ' Cause I know the answer to that one- To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women. 😀

  • I still need to try Witcher 2 sometime this year, especially given that I enjoyed the first as much as I did. I was a bit amused by the comment about storytelling basically being literature, since the game is based on a series of polish novels if I am recalling correctly. 🙂

  • Really looking forward to these weekly discussions here!

For me, it's a quartet of titles making the rounds this weekend. On my PC it's going to be Game of Thrones and Diablo III, and on my PS3 I've been playing Naruto Ninja Storm 2 and Elemental Monsters.

  • Either of you guys get a serious amount of lag? I knew the net connection at my house was bad (DSL) but holy smoke- sometimes I actually have to restart a dungeon because I can't move more than a few feet without being reset to my original point. Time to go FiOS I guess.

  • I bought Limbo in that XBLA combo pack a while back and never got around to it. Massive backlog is massive.

  • As long as that's all from NeoFAQs you copy. 😉

Yes, I have played it and still own it on the GameCube. But it's been so long (around the game's original launch) that it's like a whole new experience.

  • Don't worry, no plans to copy anything else from them 😉

Are you going to review it on your site? Clearly you're a fan, but I would love to see your thoughts on the game 🙂

  • If this was titled, "What games is your family playing." I could add Mario Kart Wii to it right now, as our oldest is getting lost in the menus on the game right now, and just reset a race after driving around backwards for a bit.

Was gonna play some Uncharted last night, but that didn't happen. I'll find out in another hour-ish, if Saturday will get any game-time.

  • I like the topic and future installments sound good, but I have nothing to add to the pile right now. Haven't touched games since earlier in the week with the LEGO demo. Though I might have one or two games in my backlog to work on soon. 😉

Been watching the US open, playing with a tablet some and gathering mortgage paperwork…

  • Oooh, the mortgage paperwork sounds fun. How close are you to the platinum trophy for that? 😛

I'll make sure next week's topic is one you can get into 😉

  • I worded that really badly. I got Fortune Street at launch, and by "pick up" I meant "physically pick it up and actually use the Wii for a change." Lol, my bad!

You must get the game! It's amazing fun, and I'm always up for online play 😀

  • This is sort of like what NeoFAQs does with a weekly topic.

    I am currently playing:

    Pikmin 2 (Wii)
    Monster Tale (DS)
    Tales of the Abyss (3DS)

  • In agreement with Matt here – Limbo is a must-play, and I am not much of a platforming fan (though I guess I would say it's platforming and puzzle-solving). And it's not a huge time investment. I think my first run-through was less than five or six hours.

  • I wouldn't say 'serious amounts of lag' but I'm definitely getting some, but my ISP sort of stinks and they're doing a lot of maintenance in my area atm. Still, I'm never lagged out more than a second or two, and it always catches up fairly quickly.

  • If you get Fortune Street, I'll have to finally cave and pick it up, too! I really want to try it and it'd be great to play online together 😀

  • My connection is absolutely B-R-utal. For the most part, I've been playing at work (during lunch of course).
