Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Every year the world patiently (or not-so-patiently) counts down those 24 days to Christmas; there’s even calendars filled with little treats to help keep the young ones patient.

Then the big day rolls around and it’s filled with great food, great company and, of course, presents.

Christmas is the best time of year, and so to do our bit in celebrating we’re doing our own advent calendar. Each day we’ll unveil another game that has touched us in some way over the year – whether because it’s a work of interactive art, laugh-out-loud funny or just so weird it blew our mind.

So be sure to check back each day for a new game suggestion to fill your Christmas break!

21 Days to Go! Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury

Here’s a game you probably forgot existed: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury. The series has been kicking since 1999, but it’s still largely untapped. In fact, this is the first console release in about 12 years.

So, why is Missile Fury worth a recommendation? In essence, it’s a brilliant 2D shoot-‘em-up that walks a graceful line between insanity with intelligence. Each level gives you a new objective to complete – one that will test your wit, reflexes and patience. Oh, and you’re a robot who eats fruit and launches thousands of individually pictured missiles simultaneously.

There’s also a solid multiplayer mode, but alas, the lobbies are barren. If you can convince a friend to join you (perhaps as challenging as some of the fiendish later stages), why not hit up Xbox Live and watch the bullets fly?

  • I really had a hard time getting into this game. There's more thinking involved than I feel a shooter should have. Still, I bet it'd be great fun if that's your thing, especially since it has a lot of content.
