Digitally Downloaded poll results #1: Do you prefer to download games, or buy retail?

/
1 min read

You might have missed it, but Digitally Downloaded has started to run a series of polls (check the sidebar of our website). The first asked do you prefer to download games, or buy retail?

And it was a very even result:

Download (50%)
Retail (50%)
Neither – I prefer streaming games from the cloud (0%)

I think a few years ago, that result would have been far more skewed towards retail. I think in a few more years people will start to prefer the third option; the games industry is changing quite dynamically.

What are your thoughts? Be sure to check out our next poll – it’s a good one; “What is your preferred gaming device?”

This is the bio under which all legacy DigitallyDownloaded.net articles are published (as in the 12,000-odd, before we moved to the new Website and platform). This is not a member of the DDNet Team. Please see the article's text for byline attribution.

  • I think this will be interesting going forward, as it seems ISPs are starting to go more with "limited" data plans.

If ISPs start limiting the amount that people can use per month, I think retail will definitely stick around and perhaps even regain lost popularity with certain people.

  • Good point, Mr Coffee!

I must admit, I dont know the situation in the US, but ISPs in Australia have never liked unlimited plans. We have things more like 100GB/ month capped.

I don't know if that would limit some, but certainly it's enough for me, and I consider myself a heavy user of download games.

Thanks for the input! Shall have to watch what happens on the US very closely šŸ™‚
