Super Mario Bros. launched in Japan on September 13, 1985, and it’s time to celebrate! Twenty minutes of today’s Nintendo Direct were dedicated to Mario and friends, with games releasing through (Japanese) spring 2026.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The title is nearly all we know about the next Mario movie. However, Nintendo did confirm that the main cast from the first film will return, including Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson. The movie will be released in cinemas on April 3.
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
Return to the cosmos in these two beloved Mario games. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be launching for Switch together on one physical cart, or separately as digital purchases. Both games feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content and enhanced resolution. A free Switch 2 update adds 4K resolution for both titles. Fans can also purchase Rosalina’s book as a real physical hardback, featuring the original art and story from Super Mario Galaxy; no release date was announced. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released for Switch on October 2.
Mario Tennis Fever
Nintendo announced Mario Tennis Fever today, the latest in its Mario Tennis series. There are 30 different Fever Rackets, each with unique special abilities, such as making your opponent miniature or making their area of the court ice. The game features 38 playable characters, the most in the series. Topspins, slices, lobs, and other familiar shots are back, mixed with new slide moves and defensive footwork. Modes include Tournament, Trial Towers, Mix It Up mode (with Wonder effects!), and Adventure. In Adventure mode, Mario and his friends are transformed into babies and have to relearn tennis and defeat monsters to return to their normal, adult selves. Mario Tennis Fever will be released for Switch 2 on February 12.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder adds “more content and enhancements,” though nothing specific has been revealed. In Bellabel Park, players can enjoy attractions that let them team up with or work against their friends and family: collect the most coins, run and hide, pass a Bob-omb to the goal, and more. Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park launches for Switch 2 in spring 2026.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
In its final Mario-related news of the day, Nintendo announced Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. One day, a peculiar talking book falls from the sky onto the island where Yoshi and his friends live. Its pages contain information about unusual creatures, and Yoshi decides he must investigate! Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will be released for Switch 2 next spring.
