Welcome to Digitally Downloaded’s weekly catch-up news feature, the catch-up coffee. Here, I bring you the best news you may have missed from last week. Grab the biggest mug you’ve got, fill it with your favourite brew, and catch up with us (and our favourite news anchor, Dee Dee)!
This week, all news is related to game delays that have publicly (sometimes subtly) stated to be due to Aussie-developed indie game Hollow Knight: Silksong’s September 4 launch date. I love to see excitement for a game, but it’s still a bummer to see others games get pushed. I’ve already covered another delay, Demonschool.
Aeterna Lucis
Aeterna Lucis has been delayed from a release window of September 2025. The Aeterna Noctis sequel is now scheduled to launch sometime in 2026. Like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Aeterna Lucis is a side-scrolling Metroidvania game, making its delay even more reasonable. It focuses on fast-paced combat, exploration, and story; it follows a new protagonist after the events of the first game. The Queen of Light must challenge the Supreme God Chaos while seeking the location of their old nemesis.
Part of the delay announcement reads:
“Our initial plan was to launch it this September, but after the announcement of Silksong, we are fully aware that our game wouldn’t have the visibility it deserves. Competing with a phenomenon of that scale would not only be unfair to our team’s effort, but also to you, the community, who expect to experience this adventure under the best possible conditions.
“In addition, we still don’t have all the necessary development kits to ensure a simultaneous release on all next-generation platforms. To be transparent, we believe the best decision for everyone is to step back and bring you Aeterna Lucis at the right time.”
CloverPit
Slot-machine horror game CloverPit has been delayed from September 3 to September 26. The roguelite game places players in a locked, rusty cell with a slot machine and an ATM, requiring them to pay off their debt by the end of each round. Otherwise, death comes swiftly. Manipulate the slot machine for extra coins, or turn odds in your favour with prizes that trigger huge combos that can create a dazzling lucky run.
This is its original release date trailer:
The announcement, made on Steam, reads:
“The release date for Silksong was announced yesterday, and it’s only one day after [CloverPit’s] original launch date. Silksong is the most anticipated and wishlisted game on all of Steam and we think people will love this game and play it right at launch (including us) but that also means it will overshadow all games launching close to it. So if we stick to our original date we would risk the launch of CloverPit a fair bit.
“We poured our hearts into our little game so of course we want to give it the best possible shot. We hope you can understand -— we’ll use the extra time of course to polish the game even further and we hope for your support at launch either way.”
Baby Steps
Baby Steps has been delayed from its June-announced September 8 to September 23. The delay was announced via a trailer:
The game follows an unemployed person with nothing going for him. But one day, he discovers a power… the power to put one foot in front of another! He sets off to discover a world shrouded in mist, with players controlling one leg at a time. Baby Step features physics-based walking, a dynamic soundtrack, a long trek up a mountain-sized mountain that players can take at their own pace, non-collectible hats, and — no joke — a “fully dynamic onesie soilage system.”
Little Witch in the Woods
Announced via Steam, Little Witch in the Woods has been delayed from September 4 to September 15. The RPG follows Ellie, a little witch, in her daily life as an apprentice. All witchy apprentices must go to one of many Witch Houses and help the neighbouring village and villagers. It takes completing the apprenticeship to become a formal witch.
The announcement reads, in part:
“Recently, we finally announced with excitement the release date of the full version. However, shortly after our announcement, we learned that Hollow Knight: Silksong — a highly anticipated new title of a masterpiece in the gaming industry — is launching on the same day. Silksong is a game we look up to with awe as developers, and eagerly anticipate as players. Given its immense influence, we fear that launching Little Witch in the Woods on the same day would not only dishearten our dedicated team but also disappoint our devoted audience.”
