Indie developer Studio Morgan has announced that Morgan: Metal Detective, its cosy first-person metal detector adventure game, will be released for PC and consoles at the end of July 2025. The game follows teenage girl Morgan as she visits the Cornish island of Glasden with her Mum after her grandfather’s death. She soon learns that her grandfather has entrusted her with his metal detector, and decides to scour the area investigating legends of secret treasure.
In Glasden, everyone is looking for something. Morgan helps search for these items with her metal detector. Everything unearthed serves a purpose: returning items gets Morgan a tape she can listen to while exploring, while useless trash can be exchanged for credits towards new stickers or film.
The game’s features, per a press release, include:
- Search the island for buried treasure with your metal detector
- Things are going missing on the island! Follow clues and help people locate their lost items
- Meet the island’s charming inhabitants
- Explore the beautiful scenery at your own pace
- BAFTA-nominated Charlotte McBurney (Amicia in the A Plague Tale series) as the titular Morgan
- Listen to music on your tape player, unlock new tapes by completing quests
- Take pictures of your favourite views using your instant camera
- Customise your journal with stickers and photos from your instant camera
- Trade unwanted items in at the shop to buy more film for your instant camera and sticker packs to put in your journal
- Solve the mystery at the heart of the island
“Morgan: Metal Detective is designed to be like an old jumper – warm, comforting and above all, cosy,” said Harvey Hayman, Co-Director and Game Designer at Studio Morgan, in the aforementioned press release. “We wanted to express the feeling of childish, care-free exploration; the Cornish island of Glasden is your playground to explore and re-discover lost treasures with your trusty old metal detector. We hope that we have succeeded in creating a wholesome world to relax in.”
“Morgan: Metal Detective is a cosy love-letter to childhood Cornish holidays,” added Holly Hudson, Co-Director and Art Director at Studio Morgan. “Set against the backdrop of a hand-crafted 3D island, it invites players to embark on an adventure filled with the innocent thrill of exploration, armed with a trusty metal detector and shovel. This game blends a simple yet striking environment with vibrant 2D details, mirroring Morgan’s inquisitive perspective of the island and its inhabitants.”
Developed and published by Studio Morgan, Morgan: Metal Detective will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series on July 30.
