Studio Loading, Kibou Entertainment and Alunite Inc. have announced that retro action-puzzle adventure game Orpheus: To Hell and Back, which was originally released as a physical Game Boy Color cartridge, will be launching for PC via Steam next week. Alunite Inc. will publish for that platform. This is the game’s first digital release; perhaps more are around the corner? The game brings the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to life in an 8-bit, 80s chibi-anime style.
Orpheus: To Hell and Back is set in a stylized version of ancient Greece and its underworld. You take on the role of Orpheus as he descends into Hates to rescue his love. Gameplay blends puzzle-solving with action elements, and features environmental challenges. Enemies can be manipulated through the power of Orpheus’ lyre. You can charm them, put them to sleep, or instil fear in them. This mechanic opens up multiple paths through each level.
Here are the game’s key features, via Studio Loading, Kibou Entertainment and Alunite Inc.:
- Music-based combat: Use three lyre melodies to charm, slow or repel enemies and push them into traps.
- Action-puzzle gameplay: Navigate the depths of Hades across a series of puzzle levels.
- 80s chibi-anime aesthetic: Adorable pixel art and original chiptune music.
- Retro authenticity: Originally released as a physical Game Boy Color cartridge.
- Available in English and Japanese.
Developed by Studio Loading, Kibou Entertainment and Alunite Inc., Orpheus: To Hell and Back will be released next week for PC via Steam. Note: The game’s Steam Page says it launches on July 12, but July 13 was announced via a press release.
