The key art for Kynseed.

Developed by industry veterans who worked on previous Fable titles, Kynseed is a life-sim sandbox RPG that originally launched for PC in December 2022. Now, three and a half years later, the critically acclaimed title is set to launch for consoles. In the game, players raise a family, farm the land, run a business, and build an everlasting legacy in the vast world. There have been over 10 game updates for the PC version, and all will be available at launch for consoles. For PC players, there is also a bit of news: the much-requested Tavern Update is now available.

It all begins when you plant a mystical acorn and raise it into a family tree, with your choices forming its branches. Raise your family, farm the land, run a business, and explore the world filled with colourful NPCs that age and reveal secrets. When a character dies, control passes to their children, and the adventure spans generations.

Here are the key features of Kynseed, via PixelCount Studios:

  • A generation-spanning story. Embark upon an epic adventure filled with joy, sorrow, comedy, and tragedy, where choices matter, and decisions echo through the generations.
  • Run a business. Forge tools as a blacksmith, run a store, mix potions as an apothecary, or find other ways to build a fortune.
  • A world of exploration. The land of Quill is filled with characters, secrets, danger, and dark faery tale creatures to battle.
  • Farm the land. Grow ingredients for food and potions, work the soil, and set up home for your family.
  • Develop Relationships. Quill is full of colourful NPCs who will remember your deeds, actions, and pranks.
  • Find proverbs. Unlock the lore and secrets of this mysterious dark faery tale world.
  • Gather materials. Forage and farm to craft items, cook recipes or mix cures for a range of bizarre maladies.

“Bringing Kynseed to consoles is a milestone we’ve been working toward for a long time,” said Neal Whitehead, PixelCount Co-Founder, in a press release. “The PC community has been incredible, and their feedback has helped us make the land of Quill even richer and more vast than it was at launch just over two years ago. We know that many players want to experience the land of Quill on consoles, and we’ve spent a long time ensuring the console experience feels natural, intuitive and complete.”

The console version of Jynseed features optimized console UI and controls. New content will be available for console players at launch.

Today’s free Tavern Update allows players to run a tavern by serving refreshments, managing stock, and hiring staff.

Developed and published by PixelCount Studios, Kynseed will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on August 4. It is currently available for PC via Steam.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
