Naval real-time strategy game Buccanyar launched in Japan in April 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch; this release did include English text support. In the game, players manage the crew and resources of a ship on an exploratory voyage. Plus, there are cats. Dozens of cats. Today, Nicalis announced that it will be bringing Buccanyar West as Cats Away for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch this month; this is the first time the game will be available for PlayStation 5.
The story follows three sisters, all apprentice sailors, and their cat crewmates, as they return to port and learn their father is missing. After his ship is attacked, they head out on a journey involving pirate guilds, a mysterious cat-hating syndicate, ancient magic spells, and giant mutated monsters. Players guide Kanna, Lilia and Alicia through dangerous waters, upgrade the ship’s weapons, recruit a crew, and discover their father’s huge secret.
Steer the ship during combat to find a more advantageous position and give orders on the fly to counter enemy attacks. Between battles, dock in ports-of-call to upgrade equipment, make new friends (and enemies), and learn new skills. Side missions help earn treasure while also levelling up the captains and crew, opening new routes.

Developed by Studio Saizensen with SUCCESS Corporation, and published in the West by Nicalis, Cats Away will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on July 10.
