The key art for Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior.

I briefly wrote about tactical hack’n’slash game Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior in my Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 highlights. It is developed by Sand Door Studio, beginning as a student project before evolving into the studio’s first title. It features a nifty system that sends players back to the start at regular intervals, with clones repeating their past actions. Players will be able to get their hands on Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior for PC in mid-February.

The realm of Antala has been at peace for half a millennium, but a new danger has arrived. Saving it is up to Imë, a mighty warrior with godlike powers: she can rewind time to summon clones. She will have to protect the New Kingdom from the invasion of an ancient, powerful foe: the Raxes. Players control Imë and an army of her past selves, progression through ancient cities to grow her weapons stash, acquire new spells, and prepare for the great threat ahead.

The combat system allows player to use multiple past versions of Imë to repeat moves they preformed during prior iterations of their fights. Players will have to strategise with themselves, defeat the Raxes, and help Imë succeed at saving the realm.

“We’re so proud to finally share Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior with players. It has been an incredible adventure, with the game starting as a student project and evolving into our studio’s first-ever title,” says Thibault Legouet, Game Director at Sand Door Studio, in a press release. “Players familiar with hack’n’slash games will find all the aspects they love about the genre, including a heroine battling hordes of enemies. But with the remnant system, which sends players back to the start of arenas at regular intervals with clones repeating their past actions, the game is really tactical. You have to prepare your plan before you execute it, and the straightest path isn’t always the shortest route. We can’t wait to see how players will make the gameplay their own, adapting their skills and tactics, combining different weapons and spell combos, and leveraging their past selves to save the kingdom.”

Developed by Sand Door Studio and published by Spotlight by Quantum Dream, Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior will be released for PC via Steam/Epic on February 13.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
