2019’s AI: The Somnium Files is one of the most memorable games of the last generation. It did land on us out of nowhere, but word of mouth and time has been kind to it, and it has become something of a cult hit in the years since. The sequel, titles AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative, will benefit from people knowing how brilliant the original was, and judging from this new trailer, looks like it might just be even better.
Spike Chunsoft’s new trailer showcases just about everything you need to know about how nirvanA Initiative will play (and, basically, it builds on what made the original so good). Couple that with some stunning new character designs and a suitably creepy cyber noir-themed mystery premise, and all the pieces are there. Ultimately it all comes down to execution, but we do reckon that there’s good reason to give this team the benefit of the doubt.
The game’s just around the corner now, and arrives on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Windows 10 and Steam) on June 24. As a bonus for early adopters, for the first three weeks after release there will be DLC costumes available for free. Unfortunately they’re not swimsuits, but one of them does let you dress up as a hot dog and, in the context of what will no doubt be a frequently dark story, that’s going to be wonderfully surreal to see in motion.
